Omid Shekari
Shekari’s practice investigates the effects of governmental overreach deployed through threats and violence on the citizens. Entangled Timelines features a selection of Shekari’s inventive ink and acrylic drawings and his intaglio prints. In these works, Shekari explores the differentiation of the self while operating amongst the masses. Utilizing distinct drawing conventions, Shekari imagines figures in a variety of compromised situations, interacting with forces seen, perceived and unknown. A broad range of emotions is evoked through body language, expression and gestures between the characters. For Shekari, these pieces express the “alternating hope and despair that manifests in the in-betweens of resistance and conformity.” While intensely psychological and explicitly corporeal, there are also depictions of tenderness and the triumph of the human spirit.
